The city has asked Cat Hai authorities to tighten oversight of passenger transport operators and tourist boats on the bay, with greater checks on vessels including tourist boats, tenders and speedboats.
Inspections will focus on technical safety standards, crew qualifications, fire prevention, life-saving equipment and ticket price disclosure. Vessels failing to meet safety requirements will not be allowed to leave port.
Authorities have also been told to inspect water-based recreational activities and take action against unauthorised operators, while designated areas for such activities are to be announced in line with regulations.
A review will cover bamboo boats, local motorboats, aquaculture vessels and boats carrying tourists around Sang and Toi caves, with specific operating and safety requirements to be introduced.
Cat Hai authorities will also consider installing a camera system to monitor vessels and recreational sites across the bay, while studying plans for floating piers at tourist attractions.
The city has also asked for plans to expand Gia Luan and Cai Beo inland waterway terminals to provide more berthing and passenger facilities.
Owners of enclosed speedboats are being encouraged to switch to vessels better suited to Lan Ha Bay's conditions, including steel-hulled boats and tenders.
