Many young people in Ho Chi Minh City are flocking to coffee shops lavishly decorated for Christmas late into the night to take photos.
Many cafes in the city are open 24 hours during this period, making them appealing to those who want a quiet space for photos without the crowds. Late night coffee outings, even at 1 am or 2 am, have become a habit for some young people during the festive season.
“During the day it is very crowded, but at night or late at night taking pictures is more comfortable. One day we went at 2 am and still saw a few groups taking photos,” said Hong Diem, 26, from Thanh My Tay Ward.

Ngoc Bich from Tan Son Ward and her friends often choose 24-hour cafes in the old Phu Nhuan area or downtown, both for photos and to catch up after part-time work.
Not only young people, but some photographers also prefer late night hours for Christmas photo shoots because the quiet ambience, controllable lighting and fewer passersby make better shots.
Late night cafe culture in Ho Chi Minh City is not new, but in recent years it has taken on fresh appeal by combining relaxation, photography and seasonal experiences.
Coffee shops not only serve drinks but also expanded sweet pastry menus. Typical drink prices range from VND 45,000 to VND 65,000 (approximately USD 1.71 to USD 2.47), while pastries cost VND 30,000 to VND 60,000 (approximately USD 1.14 to USD 2.28) at popular spots.
“It is nice to find a place open late with Christmas decorations, listen to soft music and eat warm pastries. Now going for coffee is not just about drinking but about the experience,” said Thanh Thuy, 26, from An Hoi Tay Ward.

Some cafes even set aside areas where customers can set up their own cameras, change outfits or rent accessories such as hats, gloves and gift props. The elaborate decorations not only meet young people’s demand for social media check-ins but also help create a festive atmosphere in urban life.
