Construction starts on new HCM City park

Construction of a 20,000 square-metre new park in HCM City kicked off on May 19.

Tay Thanh Park is located in Cu Chi District and accommodates recreation, entertainment, and sports areas along walkways, irrigation and lighting systems and other supporting facilities.

A central plaza will be set up at the heart of the park to serve community activities and local outdoor events.

The park project, which is funded by the state budget, will cost VND22 billion (USD851,063), and is slated for completion later this year.

HCM City now has nearly 370 public parks and parks of residential areas, totalling 500 hectares. The current ratio of park areas to the city’s population is very low, at only 0.55 square metres per capita.

For the past few years, the city has strived to increase public green space and expand public parks, but the result has not been as expected.

HCM City has targeted achieving at least one square metre of green space per capita and an additional ten hectares of public green areas by 2030.
