Hundreds mobilised to reinforce Quang Ngai beach

The authorities of Quang Ngai Province have deployed up to 300 people to reinforce a severely eroded beach.

Today, February 26, these people used sandbags to strengthen a 700-metre section of My Khe Beach's embankment in Tinh Khe Commune.

In some areas, erosion extends up to 15 metres deep, damaging trees and infrastructure. The situation has worsened since late 2024.

Pham Van Vien from Tinh Khe Commune said that during the stormy season, My Khe Beach is often impacted by tides, which have become more intense in recent years.

In previous years, erosion was limited to the southern part of the beach.

However, since late last year, it has gradually spread to the central area, where many facilities and tourism establishments are located.

The casuarina forest, located about 30-40 metres from the shore, has been uprooted by the waves, while many coconut trees have also been washed away.

According to Nguyen Lam, Vice Chairman of the Quang Ngai City People's Committee, the erosion is highly complex. If it continues, the tourist area will be seriously impacted. The city has proposed building a dyke to protect the beach in the long term.

My Khe Beach stretches about 7 kilometres and is the most beautiful in Quang Ngai, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
