Roads and cassava fields in Tay Hoa District, Phu Yen Province are deeply submerged on February 23.
On the evening of February 23, Ta Tan Cong, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Thinh Commune in Phu Yen's Tay Hoa District said that local forces had been stationed along several roads to prevent residents from entering dangerous flooded areas.
According to Cong, the past two days have seen unexpected heavy rainfall in Phu Yen, causing floodwaters to surge downstream.
"A torrential downpour in spring is a rare occurrence, leaving locals unprepared," Cong said.
The local official further noted that preliminary assessments indicated that the unusual flood had damaged 150 hectares of newly planted cassava.
"It is estimated that local farmers had invested around VND 30 million per hectare. However, the deep floodwaters have submerged the plants, causing them to rot and decay," Cong shared.
The heavy rain also led to severe flooding on several roads in Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen province.
