More than two million shrimp, crabs, and fish have been released into Dong Ho Lagoon in the southern province of Kien Giang to help restore fishery resources.
The event held on Wednesday was attended by Nguyen Hai Quoc, Vice Chairman of the Ha Tien City People’s Committee.
According to Quoc, the fishing and aquaculture industry was crucial to the economic development of Kien Giang’s residents. However, overfishing and illegal practices such as electric shocks and fine-mesh nets have sharply affected aquatic resources, disrupting the ecological balance. Therefore, restoring aquatic resources and raising community awareness of their value is essential.
Of the two million aquatic species released into Dong Ho Lagoon, approximately one million juvenile shrimp were contributed by individuals and organisations.
Ha Tien City authorities also recognised businesses, organisations, and individuals for actively participating in aquatic resource conservation at the event.
