Authorities in Quy Chau Commune said they had received the macaque from a local resident in coordination with forest rangers and police.

The animal was discovered at around 10 pm on June 18 by Vi Duc Sinh, a resident of Poong Village. The macaque reportedly became agitated and attacked the homeowner after being startled.
After safely capturing the animal and learning that it was a protected species, Sinh contacted authorities and requested that it be transferred for proper care.
The animal was identified as a northern pig-tailed macaque (Macaca leonina), weighing 3.9 kilogrammes and measuring about 50 centimetres in length. It was found to be in good health.
The species is classified under Group IIB of Vietnam's list of protected forest wildlife species.
The macaque will be transferred to a wildlife rescue centre for care and monitoring before being released back into the wild.
Local authorities praised the resident's actions, saying they reflected growing public awareness of wildlife conservation and biodiversity protection.
