Construction began in late 2024 on a project combining riverbank erosion protection with the expansion and renovation of Ba To Park and surrounding public spaces stretching nearly 1.2 kilometres between Tra Khuc 1 Bridge and Tam Thuong Wharf in Nghia Lo Ward.

After 18 months of construction, the project has reached approximately 90 per cent of its contracted value, according to local authorities.
Contractors have completed the river embankment and most structures built on top of it, while landscape improvement works across Ba To Park have also been largely finished.
The centrepiece of the project is an illuminated hemispherical structure and a boat-bow-shaped observation deck overlooking the Tra Khuc River, designed to symbolise Quang Ngai's aspirations to reach out to the sea and connect with broader opportunities.
Together, the two structures have a total floor area of about 750 square metres and feature steel tube and beam frameworks combined with reinforced concrete flooring.
According to the design plan, the complex will include an artistic lighting system using colour-changing LED technology programmed to create a range of visual effects.
Once completed, the site is expected to become one of the most attractive viewpoints along the Tra Khuc River waterfront.
Nguyen Thi Huong, a resident of Nghia Lo Ward, said Ba To Park had existed for decades but was previously underutilised and overgrown, while the adjacent riverbank was covered with weeds.
"Now that the park has been expanded and the embankment completed, the entire area looks much more open and attractive," she said.
"This location sits at one of the main gateways to central Quang Ngai, so it is likely to become a prominent landscape feature once completed."
According to the Quang Ngai Transport Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board, contractors are finalising the remaining components within Ba To Park, with the area expected to be inspected and opened to the public before August 15.
Some sections of roadway included in the project are still facing land clearance challenges.

Authorities said relevant agencies are working to resolve the remaining issues and secure a clear construction site so work can proceed more quickly.
The entire project is expected to be completed and put into operation by the end of 2026.
Project investors said the development will help prevent erosion along the Tra Khuc River, expand public recreational space and create a signature riverside attraction that supports tourism development in Quang Ngai.
