Police in Hoanh Son Ward, in Ha Tinh Province, and officers from Deo Ngang Border Guard Station on June 22 received the turtle from local fisherman Hoang Van Tuyen, 54.
Tuyen caught the animal while fishing in local waters after it became entangled in his net.
Following an inspection, authorities determined that the turtle weighed about 40 kilogrammes and belonged to a protected endangered species requiring conservation.
After completing the necessary procedures, police and border guard officers released the turtle back into the sea.
