Nghe An suspends nine sand mines over surveillance failures

Nghe An Province has ordered nine sand mines along the Lam River to suspend operations after their camera systems failed to meet monitoring and data connection requirements.

The order followed an inspection on October 7 of nine sand mines in Xuan Lam, Dai Dong, Thuan Trung, Do Luong and Bach Ngoc communes.

The mines had installed weighing stations and cameras, but inspections found the systems failed to fully monitor vehicles entering and leaving the sites.

Each mine is required to have a compliant weighing station connected to tax authorities and at least three cameras covering incoming and outgoing vehicles and the weighing area.

Nghe An People's Committee Chairman Vo Trong Hai ordered the mines to remain closed until their camera systems are upgraded and pass inspections by relevant authorities.

Operators must also issue invoices for all minerals sold and publicly display prices. Mines failing to comply with regulations could face further suspension.

Hai also called for priority to be given to supplying materials for local projects to help ensure adequate construction supplies and keep projects on schedule.

Local authorities and relevant agencies were instructed to strengthen oversight, while commune police will check surveillance connections and report on mine management at weekly meetings.

Local authorities will be held responsible for mineral losses, illegal mining or unlawful transport and sale of minerals.
