Ha Tinh fisherman hands over 40-kg sea turtle for release

A fisherman in Ha Tinh Province handed over a 40-kg sea turtle to authorities after it was accidentally caught in his fishing net, allowing the rare animal to be released back into the wild.

Police in Hoanh Son Ward, in Ha Tinh Province, and officers from Deo Ngang Border Guard Station on June 22 received the turtle from local fisherman Hoang Van Tuyen, 54.

Tuyen caught the animal while fishing in local waters after it became entangled in his net.

Following an inspection, authorities determined that the turtle weighed about 40 kilogrammes and belonged to a protected endangered species requiring conservation.

After completing the necessary procedures, police and border guard officers released the turtle back into the sea.
