Despite the cold and rainy weather in recent days, dozens of environmental workers have been wading through the black, foul-smelling wastewater of the To Lich River to dredge mud and remove waste in an effort to clean up the waterway.
At the upper reaches of the To Lich River, spanning areas along Hoang Quoc Viet, Buoi, and Nguyen Dinh Hoan streets in Cau Giay District, workers from the Hanoi Sewage and Drainage Company have been carrying out dredging operations to clear accumulated sludge and improve water flow.
A representative of the company stated that workers are regularly collecting and removing waste from the river to maintain environmental aesthetics while also dredging the riverbed in preparation for the 2025 rainy season drainage plan.
Early in the morning, workers operate cranes to dredge thick, black sludge from the riverbed.
The waste, which emits a strong stench, is continuously lifted from the depths using specialised equipment.
Large solid waste and debris that cannot be suctioned through pipelines are manually sorted and brought to the riverbank, awaiting transport for proper disposal.
On the riverbank, workers monitor and adjust the pipeline system that transports the dredged sludge from the riverbed into tanker trucks.
They remain on standby to inspect and regulate the pipes, ensuring smooth operation and preventing any malfunctions during the cleanup process.
