Le Vien from Phu Loc District discovered the 3-kilo python in his garden. The animal was in normal health with no signs of injury. He recognised it as a rare and protected species and promptly notified the district's Forest Protection Board.

Vien hands over the python to Phu Loc District's Forest Protection Board on February 23.
The reticulated python is among the world's largest snake species, primarily inhabiting Southeast Asia, including Vietnam.
Under the Vietnamese Government's Decree 84, the reticulated python is classified under Group IIB, which includes endangered and rare forest animals subject to restricted exploitation and commercial use. Depending on the severity of the violation, illegal hunting, captivity, or trade of this species may result in administrative fines or criminal prosecution.
Early this month, two people in HCM City's Thu Duc City also handed over three reticulated pythons to local authorities.
