Torrential rain, which began in the afternoon of June 4 and lasted through the night, caused major destruction in the remote mountainous area. More than 150 metres of National Highway 16 were swept away, completely cutting off access to the region.

Dozens of households were urgently evacuated as homes, crops, livestock and other property were buried or destroyed by the floodwaters and landslides.

One section of National Highway 16 was blocked by a massive landslide, and the only road leading to the local village was rendered impassable. The disruption of transport routes has severely hampered rescue and relief efforts.

Residents remain on high alert, fearing further landslides if the rain continues. Many power poles were also toppled, posing safety risks and causing power outages.

Local authorities and emergency responders are working urgently to address the aftermath and ensure public safety. However, weather conditions in Nhon Mai remain unstable, complicating recovery efforts.

Officials are continuing to evacuate residents from high-risk areas and are prioritising the repair of the damaged national highway to restore access to the commune as soon as possible.
