Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Bui Duy Cuong on September 9 inspected construction of the Tu Lien, Tran Hung Dao and Ngoc Hoi bridges and their approach roads, all key transport projects being fast-tracked by the city.
Work is under way simultaneously on all three projects, with authorities urging contractors to step up construction and resolve delays.
At Tu Lien Bridge, land clearance across 62.51 hectares is complete, with contractors working at 15 sites. Construction has reached VND 1.84 trillion (USD 70.2 million), or 19.57 per cent of the contract value, and is expected to hit 40 per cent by year-end.
The main bridge, steel sections, Dong Anh approach bridge and Truong Sa interchange are broadly on schedule, while the Nghi Tam interchange and approach bridge and a cantilever bridge over the Duong River are behind schedule.
At Tran Hung Dao Bridge, all 31.05 hectares required for the project have been handed over. Contractors are working at 28 sites, with construction reaching VND 2.46 trillion, or 33.72 per cent of the contract value.
Most sections of the main bridge and approach bridges are on track for completion before APEC 2027, although work on the Tran Hung Dao interchange has been delayed by electricity safety requirements.
Land clearance for Ngoc Hoi Bridge has been completed on the Hanoi side, while Hung Yen Province has handed over 97.6 per cent of the required land. The remainder is expected to be cleared this month.
One component of the project is expected to begin construction in September, while another has 20 construction sites operating along the route and has completed 22.36 per cent of its contract value.
Cuong urged investors, project managers and contractors to make full use of favourable weather, mobilise workers and equipment and accelerate critical sections.
He said delays and other obstacles should be reported and addressed promptly. Where contractors fail to meet schedules, workloads should be reassigned to those with sufficient capacity.
For Tran Hung Dao Bridge, Cuong also called for the bridge and its approach roads to be built simultaneously to ensure the entire project can open safely and efficiently.
The city has asked relevant agencies to closely review proposals that could alter project plans or increase costs, while assessing whether faster construction could save time and public funds.
