The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has reported that on June 9 and 10, the northern mountainous and midland regions are expected to experience moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms, with rainfall ranging from 30 to 70mm and isolated areas receiving over 180mm. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also forecast in the Red River Delta and Thanh Hoa Province, with rainfall of 20 to 40mm, and some areas exceeding 80mm.
From June 11 to 12, rainfall in the northern region is expected to ease, with sunny weather during the day. Some areas may experience heatwaves lasting through the end of the week.
According to a rapid assessment released on June 8 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, recent heavy downpours have severely affected several northern mountainous provinces, including Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Son La and Lao Cai, where rainfall has ranged from 50 to 150mm in recent days.
During this weather event, one person in Ha Giang was killed by a lightning strike, and another in Lao Cai went missing after being swept away by floodwaters.
