Le Chien, head of the Sasa Marine Animal Rescue Team, confirmed that the pantropical spotted dolphin passed away on the morning of June 6. The adult dolphin, over two metres in length, was believed to be in the later stages of its life.

The animal was discovered at around 9 am on Wednesday near Pier 5 of Tien Sa Port, in an area overseen by the Danang Port Border Guard. At the time, it showed clear signs of exhaustion and had multiple scratches on its body.

A preliminary clinical assessment revealed the dolphin was suffering from a buoyancy disorder, likely caused by broken ribs or internal trauma. “The injuries were beyond the team’s capacity to treat,” said Chien.

Following its death, the dolphin’s remains were transferred to the Danang Sub-Department of Fisheries for handling in accordance with local regulations.
