Hien and her children
Nguyen Thi Hien in Cong Ly Commune, Ly Nhan District, is now at the age of 70. Hien’s husband died nearly 10 years ago, leaving four ailing children for her. Her eldest son Nguyen Van Hung often suffers from epilepsy. The three others, Nguyen Van Phuong, Nguyen Thi Thao and Nguyen Van Tien are all dumb.
In addition, Hien's daughter-in-law left home without saying a word and left two children behind.
After their story was published, many people have called and helped them. Hien said, "It's been such a long time since we were able to enjoy a happy Tet like that. We have received VND10m (US440) Dan we plan to use it to treat Hung."
Hien was shocked when being told that readers donated another VND134,095,000 to her family. Hien said she couldn't dream of having so much money.
"Truly, we haven't had a full meal since my husband died. Now thanks to everyone's help, we can go to hospital and buy food," she said.
