On July 16 in San Diego, California, a Vietnamese-Japanese girl, Hirao Yuka, won the Miss Vietnam Global Beauty Pageant.

The annual pageant was first held in 2006 and is highly-regarded among Vietnamese people living abroad.
In the 4th beauty pageant, held in 2009, the Miss Vietnam Global title went to Alex Tran from Texas. The first runner-up in that pageant was Le My Linh from Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and Huong Giang from Vietnam was named as the second runner-up.
Three years later, in 2013, the 5th Miss Vietnam Global beauty pageant was held and Mai Thanh from Virginia, USA, won the third runner-up prize, while Yuly Nguyen from Canada was second runner-up, and Kim Duyen, from Vietnam won first runner-up.
The winner of the night, Hirao Yuka, also won the Miss Swimsuit prize.
