Hue to restore 27 heritage sites by 2030

Hue City plans to carry out 27 heritage restoration and conservation projects between 2026 and 2030, with total investment of more than VND 1.59 trillion (USD 60.5 million).

Eleven restoration and conservation projects are being implemented in 2026, including Dai Cung Mon, the main gate to the Forbidden Purple City in the Hue Imperial City, and Thoai Thanh Temple at the Gia Long Tomb complex, with work on both major sites scheduled to begin in November.

Phung Van Hoang, director of the project management board under the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre, said restoration of the two sites was expected to begin in November.

The restoration of Dai Cung Mon will cost more than VND 64 billion and run from 2026 to 2030. Built in 1833 under Emperor Minh Mang, the structure was destroyed in 1947, leaving only its foundations.

The restoration of Thoai Thanh Temple, dedicated to Emperor Gia Long's mother, will cost more than VND 73 billion and run until 2030. The site remains largely in ruins.

Other Nguyen Dynasty sites are also being restored, including Can Chanh Palace at nearly VND 200 billion and Quoc Tu Giam, the former national academy, at more than VND 108 billion, both due for completion in 2029.

The VND 132 billion restoration of the Temple of Literature in Kim Long Ward is due for completion in 2028, while an VND 11 billion project will restore the Ngoc Dich-Ngu Tien Van Phong Lake area in the Imperial City by 2027.

Hue has so far invested nearly VND 4.8 trillion in restoring and conserving more than 200 heritage structures, most of them within the Complex of Hue Monuments.

Sites managed by the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre welcomed more than 2.8 million visitors in the first nine months of 2026 and are expected to receive more than 3.2 million for the full year.

Entrance fee revenue exceeded VND 400 billion during the nine-month period and is projected to reach about VND 480 billion for the year. Service revenue topped VND 65 billion, up 104 per cent year on year.
