The initiative, held in Viet Hung Ward on April 4-5 to mark National Health Day, involves multiple hospitals and grassroots health facilities. All elderly residents in the ward are receiving comprehensive medical examinations free of charge.

Nguyen Trong Dien, director of the Hanoi Department of Health, said the pilot would pave the way for annual citywide health checks from 2026, with data integrated into digital health records via VNeID.

The programme includes general physical examinations, specialist consultations and basic diagnostic tests such as blood and urine analysis, ultrasound and X-rays.

Several major hospitals, including Duc Giang General Hospital and Saint Paul General Hospital, are providing personnel and technical support. At least 52 medical staff are involved at some sites, operating multiple screening lines.

Officials said the initiative aims to detect illnesses early, enabling timely treatment and better long-term health management. Many elderly participants welcomed the programme, citing its convenience, efficiency and reduced need for travel.

Authorities plan to expand the model across Hanoi following the pilot phase.
