Enterprises in HCM City have more active policies for corporate social responsibility (CSR) than those in Hanoi, according to a recent report.

HCM City businesses spend more on CRS than in Hanoi
Vietnam’s Asia-Pacific Centre of Hanoi (VAPEC Hanoi) recently released a report on charity operations by Vietnamese enterprises, conducted under the sponsorship of the Asia Foundation.
Discrepancy in funding
The report revealed that 68% of enterprises in Hanoi, and 84% of businesses in HCM City, claimed to have contributed to charities. Funding policies in the two major cities, however, seem to have been quite different.
Except for funding for the disabled, HCM City firms have been more active and dynamic in their charitable contributions.
In HCM City, 66% of enterprises in HCM City took part in at least one charity operation, compared to only 8% of firms in Hanoi.
Enterprises in HCM City spend an average of VND28 million (USD1,339) each year on charitable programmes, much higher than businesses in Hanoi, at around VND3.5 million (USD167.46) per year, the report said.
According to the report, the charity work in the south helped with establishing trusted brands and publicly showing CSR programmes.
The report also indicated that such programmes were heavily dependent on the efficiency of management, as donations rely on a company's profitability.
The report also showed that 32% of enterprises in Hanoi claimed that their charity operations were efficient, while the number in HCM City was 56%.
Around 28% of firms in HCM City said they did not satisfy standard of efficiency in their current charity operations, while 56% of companies in Hanoi had no comment on this issue.
Different outlooks
Concerning forms of charitable ventures, HMC City enterprises were more optimistic about the climate for such activities in the near future.
Most enterprises preferred to raise funds for social operations instead of organising voluntary programmes or donations.
