Nguyen The Sang, 48, has expressed his wishes to return home as he has run out of money and cannot arrange more to continue his treatment for his heart disease at the Hanoi-based Vietnam-Germany Hospital.
According to a staff member at the hospital, Nguyen Thi Phuong, Sang needs VND80 million (USD3,200) more for heart surgery, but he said that he could not afford it.
"Sang has a good chance of recovery if he undergoes the surgery," Phuong said. "However, he said he could not take it due to financial shortages. We hope that he will receive donor support to continue the treatment."
Sang's family has three members facing vision impairment, including him, his mother, and his son due to Marfan syndrome. Meanwhile, his wife has been struggling with cancer for over 10 years.
Despite having been struggling with breast cancer for over 10 years, Sang's wife now has to take care of him at the hospital.
He said that his family has borrowed a lot to cover treatment for him, his wife and son, and now they are unable to find more money.
"I want to live, but now there's no way," he said in tears.
Speaking to Dantri Newspaper, Doctor Tran Dang Thanh, at the Vietnam-Germany Hospital, said that Sang needed an operation as soon as possible to save his life.
