Vu Thi Hong Thao and her son
"After Tet, I noticed that his right eye looked strange. At night, it looked like a cat eye. When I brought him to the hospital, I was told that he has retinal cancer and needed to be admitted to the hospital immediately to remove the eye. I couldn't believe it," Thao said.
Thao was born in Ha Nam Province with a difficult background. She dreamed to be a teacher but couldn't find jobs at any high schools so she turned to work at a factory at Dong Van Industrial Park. The time her son was diagnosed with cancer was also when her marriage had troubles. Thao brought her son to Hanoi for treatment.
Dr Hoang Thu Trang at National Cancer Hospital-Tan Trieu said, "Pham Tuan Anh has been given chemotherapy to prevent the tumour from regrowing and spreading. His chance of having cancer again is 50%."
Anh still has the chance to escape cancer but Thao can hardly support him now.
