Danang police said on September 30 that they had detained Tran Van Quan, 43, of An Hai Ward, for investigation into alleged abuse of trust to appropriate property.

Police said a foreign national reported on September 17 that he had been deprived of USD 30,000. The 30-year-old man had contacted Quan to exchange the money because he needed foreign currency.
At noon on September 13, Quan drove to the man's accommodation in An Hai Ward and collected the USD 30,000.
Quan allegedly told the man that he did not have the necessary cash on hand and would need to find someone to exchange the money before transferring it back. Having conducted several previous transactions with Quan, the man trusted him and provided the QR code for his bank account.
After receiving the money, however, Quan allegedly decided to keep it for himself. He cut off contact with the man, removed him from his contacts and drove out of Danang, heading directly to Khanh Hoa Province to evade arrest.
Given the value of the alleged loss and the involvement of a foreign national, Danang police quickly formed a team of experienced investigators and officers to trace the suspect.
After identifying the location where Quan was believed to be hiding, Danang police worked with their counterparts in Khanh Hoa to arrest him and bring him in for questioning.
During an administrative check, officers found USD 30,000 in Quan's backpack, exactly the amount the foreign national had reported missing.
