The Hanoi Department of Transport has asked to suspend all work on pavements in inner-city areas from January 16 to ensure locals are not inconvenienced as the Tet Lunar New Year nears.
Workers are speeding up the repair of many pavements in Hanoi to finish the work before the deadline.

Dozens of workers are concentrating on the stone paving on Khuat Duy Tien Street in Thanh Xuan District. Three people were assigned to every 200 metres of pavement previously, but the number has now doubled. They also continue through lunch to quickly finish the pavement work.
Pavement maintenance and upgrading have also been hastened on Tran Thai Tong and Hoang Cau streets. Some shops on the streets have had to temporarily close.
Many pavements in Hanoi have deteriorated despite being paved with stone. In 2017, many pavements were upgraded with stone which was claimed to have a life of 50-70 years. However, the stone paving quickly deteriorated. Parking has also been blamed for the quick deterioration of the pavements in Hanoi.
People in Hanoi complained that the pavement work should be conducted throughout the year rather than just be focused on during the final months as this was peak business season for many traders.
