A poor widow in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau is on the verge of death due to serious disease, leaving her three children facing a gloomy future.
Truong Thi Thao, 36, has become the family pillar over the past five years since her husband died of appendicitis. She has worked very hard to take care of her parents-in-law and her three children.
About seven months ago, she suddenly fell unconscious and taken to a local hospital. Doctors there said that she suffered from stroke. Her relatives and neighbours contributed VND40 million to help her cover the hospital fees.
Since then, she has been unable to work.
Two weeks ago, her health condition worsened with serious difficulty breathing. Taken to Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City, she was diagnosed with heart failure.
Doctors said that she needs urgent surgery which costs around VND80 million, however, her family cannot afford this. Her own father has been trying to borrow money from different sources, but, it is still insufficient to cover the operation.
