The “5 in 1” Quinvaxem vaccine—suspected of playing a role in the recent deaths of some child recipients—is safe to use.
The MoH’s Preventive Medicine Department said the vaccine was sent to an independent agency in the UK for further testing, and the testing verified its safety conclusively.
WHO officials stated the infant deaths and severe allergic reactions reported across the country since the beginning of 2013 cannot be attributed to the Quinvaxem vaccine.
National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology Director Nguyen Tran Hien referenced WHO’s letter to the MoH on June 17. In it, the WHO concluded the Quinvaxem vaccine meets rigourous quality standards and has proven effectiveness in preventing childhood diseases.
