The Ministry of Finance will raise the price frame of clean water beginning on July 11.

| Water prices to increase in July |
New water prices in large cities with a population of over one million will rise for all water users in Vietnam.
The price will depend on the amount of water usage, going up from the lowest usage rate of VND3,000 (USD0.14) to VND3,500 (USD0.17) per cubic metre per month for those who use less than four cubic metres.
Rates for those who use the most, more than six cubic metres per persion, per month, will be increased from VND12,000 (USD0.57) to VND18,000 (USD0.86) per cubic metre.
The price ranges in smaller cities will also increase from VND2,000-10,000 (USD0.1-0.47) to VND3,000-15,000 (USD0.14-0.7).
The price in rural areas will go up from VND1,000-8,000 (USD0.05-0.38) to VND2,000-11,000 (USD0.1-0.53).
These new prices will replace all the old prices, released on July 15, 2009.
In May, Hanoi Water Limited Company proposed a 35%.rise in the price of tapwater. This proposal was made when the prices of input materials such as chemicals and pipelines increased, while actual water prices remained low.
The company claimed to have lost VND32 billion (USD1.5 million), causing it to have to cut back on staff.
