Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dun has approved a project to develop the information and communications system in rural areas during the 2011-2020 period, with a total investment of over VND24 trillion.
Under the project, by 2020 all communes in remote and mountain areas will have access to public postal and telecommunications services, and the number of Internet subscribers in rural areas will increase by 30-40 percent on average.
All communes in midland and mountain areas will have Nhan Dan (People) and other Party newspapers to read everyday.
Besides, most of households in rural areas will regularly enjoy radio and television programmes.
All local authorities will have their own websites, telephones and e-mail addresses to make it easy for people to contact when necessary.
