Under the ministry’s recommendation, the project will focus on expanding Terminal 1 and constructing a second runway and Terminal 2 by 2030.

Once expanded, Terminal 1 will have an annual capacity of five million passengers, helping to raise the airport’s total capacity to eight million passengers and 25,000 tonnes of cargo annually by 2030. This figure is expected to grow to 14 million and 35,000 tonnes of cargo by 2050 respectively.
Vinh Airport is now home to a single runway of 2,400 metres long and 45 metres wide, with a designed capacity of 2.75 million passengers each year. It can handle 21-26 flights every day. With this runway, it can serve planes A230 and A321 or equivalent ones.
The airport is facing overload due to the passenger surge, therefore, according to the Ministry of Transport, it is necessary to upgrade the airport.
