Germany has announced to donate 2.5 million doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine to Vietnam to support the country's Covid-19 fight, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

More than two million doses of AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine arrive in Vietnam on August 30 and September 1
Earlier, Germany also said it would send medical supplies comprising 75 ventilators, 15 patient monitors and 20,000 oxygen metres as gifts to Vietnam.
“This is valuable support from the German Government and people," the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Saturday. "It shows their spirit of solidarity towards Vietnam during its challenging time, and a vivid testament to the Vietnam-Germany Strategic Partnership at its 10th anniversary.”
The gifts came after Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a letter and held phone calls with German Chancellor Angela Merkel regarding vaccine support.
Germany is among the countries that are contributing to the vaccine platform COVAX. It is expected that Germany will donate 30 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to developing countries.
As of September 1, Vietnam has received over 30 million doses Covid-19 vaccine from the deal with Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company, the global vaccine access mechanism Covax, and as support from other nations. This consists of over 19 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine, more than five million doses of Moderna, over three million doses of Pfizer, over 2.7 million doses of Sinopharm vaccine, and 12,000 doses of Sputnik V.
The country has so far conducted over 21.04 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 3.04 million people having received two doses.
