Vietnam confirms additional 147,358 more Covid-19 infections on Monday

The Vietnamese Ministry of Health on Monday reported an additional 147,358 Covid-19 infections, raising the country's patient tally to over 4.58 million.

According to the ministry's report, most of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in all 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (32,317), Nghe An (10,153), Bac Ninh (7,873), Phu Tho (4,326), and Hung Yen (3,978).

As of Monday evening, 4,574,560 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country last April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (553,040), Hanoi (427,351), Binh Duong (315,504), Bac Ninh (151,409), and Quang Ninh (128,316).

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 4,582,058. The country now stands 21st among 225 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On March 7, an additional 36,993 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 2,718,440.

On Monday evening, a further 78 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 40,891. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (15), Quang Binh (7), Kien Giang (6), and Ha Nam (5).

Vietnam on March 6 administered 320,789 doses of Covid-19 vaccines, raising the total number of doses given to local people to over 197.91 million.
