Vietnam confirms 90 more Covid-19 infections, Tuesday tally rises to 251

Vietnam recorded 90 more Covid-19 infections as of Tuesday evening, raising the daily counts to 251 and total number of patients in the country to 7,572 the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 89 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 47 in Bac Giang, 19 in Ho Chi Minh City, 10 in Bac Ninh, four in Lang Son, two each in Hanoi, Ha Nam, and Long An, and one each in Dong Thap, Tra Vinh, and Vinh Phuc.


The 47 cases in Bac Giang were recorded at some industrial parks of Van Trung, Dinh Tram, Song Khe-Noi Hoang, and Quang Chau which have reported a large outbreak over the last few weeks. Local authorities have temporarily closed the four industrial parks for Covid-19 prevention and control.

Ho Chi Minh City has become a new Covid-19 hotspot in Vietnam over the last few days with most of the infections were detected at the Revival Ekklesia Mission Vietnam, a Christian sect based in Go Vap district. Over 200 related cases have been confirmed over the past recent days, including 73 recorded on June 1. The number of positive cases linked to the religious sect is anticipated to keep rising in the coming days.


Ho Chi Minh City authorities have decided to impose social distancing on the entire city from May 31 in an effort to slow the spread of the virus.

One imported patient is a four-year-old boy who returned to Vietnam on May 30. He was sent to a quarantine are in An Giang Province upon arrival and is now being treated at a local hospital.

As of Tuesday evening, 4,495 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 2,376 in the virus epicentre of Bac Giang. The outbreak has so far spread to 34 cities and provinces nationwide.


With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 7,572 including 6,065 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 am on June 1, a total of 3,043 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 48 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 145,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.

On May 31, an additional 16,317 people were given Covid-19 vaccine in Vietnam including over 13,000 residents in the virus epicentre of Bac Giang, raising the total number of vaccine doses used in the country to 1,102,099. The number of people who have received two doses has risen to 30,602.
