A rare monkey that entered a residential area in Quang Tri Province and damaged household property has been safely captured and transferred to forestry officials for protection and rehabilitation.

On September 22, officials from the Economic Department of Huong Hiep Commune said they had coordinated with forest rangers to receive a monkey voluntarily handed over by a local resident.
Earlier, Ho Van Sy, a resident of A Rong Village in Huong Hiep Commune, discovered the animal in his garden. The monkey reportedly damaged household items and disrupted the family's daily activities.
After safely trapping the animal, Sy recognised that it was a protected wild species and proactively contacted local authorities to arrange its transfer to forest rangers.
Following an inspection, authorities identified the animal as a stump-tailed macaque, weighing 6.5 kilos. The species is classified under Group IIB, which includes rare and protected forest wildlife in Vietnam.
Officials said the monkey was in normal health when it was received.
The forestry authority will transfer the animal to a wildlife rescue centre for care and rehabilitation. Once it is deemed fit for release, it will be returned to its natural habitat.
