According to Vietnam Airlines, Flight VN7344 from HCM City landed on a newly-built Cam Ranh Airport runway that hadn’t been cleared for operation yet at 2.52pm. The crew and 203 passengers ended the flight in safety and were provided full services at the airport.
Vietnam Airlines said it had suspended the crew to explain the landing. A team was also set up to inspect the plane for coming flights and will work with the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam to investigate the case.
The Airbus A321 was transferred to Vietnam Airlines on August 26, 2015, and had received its most recent maintenance check on March 9, 2018. The flight had a US captain who has worked for Vietnam Airlines since January.
The air traffic controllers at Cam Ranh Airport were also suspended for investigation.
When the plane landed, the weather in Cam Ranh was fine and no technical issues were reported.
