The Ministry of Transport asked the Southern Institute of Science and Technology to carry out more research on the investment since the project is part of the transportation master plan and development strategy to 2020 with view to 2050.
The project cost is estimated to cost USD5bn. The railway will run through 10 stations in Can Tho and HCM cities, and Long An, Tien Giang, Vinh Long provinces. It will run along the elevated HCM City-Trung Luong-My Thuan expressway. The first station will be Tan Kien in HCM City and end at Nam Can Tho Station.
Canada's Morfund has been chosen as the investor for this public-private-partnership project.
