Two more localities hit by African swine fever

According to Nguyen Ngoc Dong, head of Department of Animal Health, to date, the epidemic has ravaged Hanoi, Haiphong, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Ha Nam, Hung Yen, Thai Binh, Dien Bien and Hoa Binh with 6,400 pigs culled.

A household in Hop Thanh co-operative in Hoa Binh’s Luong Son District had a herd of 15 pigs destroyed as soon as tests showed positive results.

On March 7, four samples in Dien Bien’s Tuan Giao District tested positive with the disease.

Localities throughout the country are taking concrete measures to prevent the spread of African swine fever.

The southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau has drafted an African swine fever prevention plan, focusing on supervising the trade and transport of pigs and pork products. 

Ben Tre and Nam Dinh provinces have set up inspection stations to control the import of pigs and pork products from other provinces.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has held an urgent meeting on the prevention of the African swine fever epidemic on March 4.
