Police in the northern province of Thai Nguyen are investigating a severe attack on a local journalist that took place on September 4.
Journalist Nguyen Ngoc Quang faces injuries due to being attacked
Provincial Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Quang urged local police to find those responsible and the motive for the attack.
While Nguyen Ngoc Quang, 44, Deputy Chief of the news section of the province's radio-television station, and his wife were coming to work in their car, two unidentified men suddenly appeared with hammers and knives, causing the couple serious injuries.
Quang suffered eight stab wounds to his shoulder, waist and arms, while his wife suffered from injuries to her legs.
Some people believe he was attacked because of his recent articles on illegal mining in the province. His home in Dong Thai Village, Hoa Thuong Commune, Dong Hy District, was on August previously attacked on August 30. An unidentified man was seen setting fire to the gate of the house.
Speaking to DTiNews, Phan Huu Minh, Director of Thai Nguyen radio and television station, said the cause of the attack had not yet been brought to light, adding that this was a very serious case and the offenders must be seriously punished.
