Police in Hoan Kiem District in Hanoi have summoned a 34-year-old taxi driver for reportedly overcharging two French tourists.
A Facebook account posted images and a description of the incident.
The two guests travelled by coach from Sapa to Hanoi and were dropped off at Tran Nhat Duat Street in Hoan Kiem District to call a taxi to Cho Gao, just 50 metres away. The tourists were charged VND500,000 (USD19.64) for the trip.
The French passengers also realised they had left their passports in the taxi. The driver agreed to return the travel documents but demanded an additional VND500,000.
Hoan Kiem District police will continue to investigate the incident.
