On Friday evening, thousands of people flocked to the airport to welcome relatives returning from abroad.
The airport is expected to see peak capacity from January 6 to February 5 with a total of 3.8 million passengers.
At this time of the year, the airport serves around 820 flights with 130,000 passengers per day. From January 8, the number of flights will increase as China flights reopen.
Four members of Tran Thu Trang’s family in District 7 came to the airport to pick up her daughter from Canada. "My sister had not returned home for three years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. So we expect a family reunion this Tet,” Trang added.
