Tropical storm Wipha, the third of its kind this year, has weakened into tropical pressure after hitting the northern province of Quang Ninh on Friday night, according to the National Centre for Hydrometeorological Forecasting.

The centre forecasted that the pressure would cause heavy rains in the northern and northern central regions until August 4.
The storm hit Quang Ninh Province on the night of August 2 with wind speed recorded at Mong Cai City reached 23 metres per second. Heavy rains were reported in some northern localities including Mong Cai City in Quang Ninh Province (209mm), Mau Son District in Lang Son Province (165mm).

At 1am on August 3, the wind speed at the eye of the storm reached 60-75km per hour. Many trees have been uprooted and streets submerged in Mong Cai City.

As of 4am the same day, the wind speed fell to 40-50km per hour.
In the next 12 hours, the pressure will move west-southwest at a speed of 10km per hour, the centre said.
The centre warned that strong winds and heavy rainfalls will continue affecting coastal northern and northern central provinces from Thai Binh to Thanh Hoa.
