Average hotel occupancy is forecast at around 80 per cent, rising to 95 per cent at many properties on the peak days of August 29-31, with some expected to be fully booked.

The surge is being driven by the five-day holiday, stronger travel demand and a range of cultural, arts, sporting and festival activities across the city.

Tourism authorities have asked hotels and other service providers to prepare sufficient staff and facilities, ensure food and fire safety, and publicly display and comply with listed prices.

Businesses have also been encouraged to provide more information on attractions, tourism products, cultural and culinary events and other experiences to encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more.
