A firm in the southern province of An Giang has been fined VND30 million (USD1,363) for building an illegal statue on a local mountain.
The violator MGA Vietnam Ltd. Co. is the investor of Ba Chua Xu (Holy Mother of the Realm) spiritual tourism site located on Sam Mountain.

The company built the Ba Chua Xu Statue while not seeking permission from local authorities or undertook public consultation. The construction, which was carried out at night to avoid being detected by local authorities, is almost finished.
The statue is 20 metres high and 4-6 metres wide and locates on a 50-square metre area.
The investor has been requested to dismantle the statue as soon as possible.
Ba Chua Xu is a prosperity goddess of southern Vietnamese folk religious belief. She is a supposed to be a good luck charm for business, health, and a protector of the Vietnamese border.
