According to the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, on Tuesday, the Red River Delta and midland localities in the north saw temperatures of 35-37 degrees centigrade. Localities from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen in the central region witnessed the highest temperature of 38 degrees centigrade.

The northern and central regions of Vietnam are experiencing scorching hot weather with temperatures of up to 40 degrees centigrade
On Wednesday, the heat in the north would reach more than 39 degrees centigrade. Some areas in the central region would face temperatures of more than 40 degrees centigrade. The heat wave would last until May 23 in the central region.
Meanwhile, the hot weather in the northern region is expected to ease on May 19. But a day later, it is likely to increase again and the spell will end on May 23.
The intense heat and particularly the combination of low humidity and southwest winds can pose higher risks of fire and explosions in residential areas due to higher electricity consumption. Furthermore, the hot weather can also bring about water shortages, exhaustion, and heatstroke.
The outdoor temperature would be 2-4 degrees centigrade higher than indoors, the National Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting has warned so people travelling outside should be more aware of the issue.
