Despite the news that SK Telecom would withdraw its services and investments, S-Fone announced on January 12 that the company has vowed to move on alone.
S-Fone is still planning for 3G race |
In November 2009, Saigon Post and Telecommunications Services Corporation (SPT) and SK Telecom Vietnam (SKTV) signed a principle agreement, a Business Cooperation Contract (BCC) for a joint venture. And now, SPT plans to move forward without a partner.
SPT will continue to manage S-Fone’s mobile network while the transformation procedure is being completed.
On January 12, S-Fone's PR representative, Nguyen Thanh Hai confirmed that, “We strongly affirm that SPT will decide to invest in S-Fone at this moment and in the future. We will continue investing and developing in the S-Fone network on the CDMA 2000-1x technology platform.”
S-Fone had denied the information that the company would withdraw from the 3G race. The operator iterated that they were in the process of improving and building BTS stations in many provinces.
According to telecoms experts, SK Telecom’s withdrawal from the Vietnam market is due to its losses and failures in the US and China.
