Vietnam only exported 380,000 tonnes of rice in June, a decrease of nearly 40% compared to the same period last year, according to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA).

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Department of Crops Production estimated that Vietnam could provide nearly 7.6 million tonnes of rice for export this year.
Explaining about the falling export volume, Vietnamese rice exporters said that this was a result of rising competition from Thailand, Pakistan, Myanmar and India.
"The selling of stockpiled rice at cheap prices by Thailand had directly affected our market," said the association. At the same time, global demand for rice has remained stagnant."
VFA said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will hold a meeting to discuss solution to the problems at the end of this month.
