Rice exports have fallen sharply in Vietnam

Rice exports have fallen since for the third consecutive month, the association said. The country only exported 1.232 tonnes this means just over 1 tonne of rice, I think you need to look at this number again? of rice in the second quarter, down 32 percent compared to the same period last year.

VFA is predicting exports of 3 million tonnes in the remaining six months of this year, bringing the total export volume to 5.65 million tonnes in 2016, down 15 percent against last year volume.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Department of Crops Production estimated that Vietnam could provide nearly 7.6 million tonnes of rice for export this year.

Explaining about the falling export volume, Vietnamese rice exporters said that this was a result of rising competition from Thailand, Pakistan, Myanmar and India.

"The selling of stockpiled rice at cheap prices by Thailand had directly affected our market," said the association. At the same time, global demand for rice has remained stagnant."

VFA said that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will hold a meeting to discuss solution to the problems at the end of this month.
