Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines Trinh Hong Quang said that the firm was willing to carry out the repatriation flights under the government’s instructions.
"Currently, the whole airspace of Ukraine and part of the airspace in Russia’s southwest have been temporarily closed to civilian flights. So Vietnamese citizens in Ukraine need to be taken to safe areas which are allowed for the repatriation flights,” Quang added.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) previously asked local airlines to prepare to take Vietnamese citizens home. Airlines have to submit their preparation flight plans to the CAAV before March 2.
Around 7,000 Vietnamese currently live in Ukraine, mainly in Kharkiv, Odessa and Kyiv.
