The first steel-clad fishing boats in Quang Tri Province, built under the provisions outlined in Decree 67, are nearing completion.
First steel-clad boats for fishermen in Quang Tri Province
Workers at Cua Viet Shipbuilding Company in Gio Linh District are finishing the first boats.
Vo Van Huu, one of the investors in Cua Viet Town, said, "Bigger boats will help fishermen stay longer at the sea, have higher capacity and will ensure better catches."
Quang Tri Province has 2,282 vessels but only 164 boats possess high capacity engines suitable for deep water fishing.
Vo Van Thu, owner of Cua Viet Shipbuilding said Decree 67 showed that the government wanted to boost capacity in the country’s fishing fleets.
Building the boats
Banks, thanks to the decree, provide loans of up to 95% value to finance construction of steel-clad vessels valued at VND14.5 billion.
