Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR) has approved the central province of Quang Tri’s proposal to open a train route linking the neighbouring province of Quang Binh, aiming to meet commuting needs following the planned provincial merger.
The route will connect Dong Ha Station and Dong Hoi Station. Trains will depart Dong Ha at 5 am and arrive in Dong Hoi at 7.40 am. In the afternoon, they will leave Dong Hoi at 5.45 pm and return to Dong Ha by 8.20 pm.
Each train will have seven air-conditioned soft-seat carriages with 64 seats each and a service car, accommodating more than 440 passengers. The return fare is VND184,000 (USD7.2). If demand increases, extra carriages will be added and ticket prices may be reduced.
According to VNR, the current Hanoi–Ho Chi Minh City schedule is unified across the entire route, so the timetable adjustment for the Dong Ha–Dong Hoi service will require further study to ensure overall compatibility.
Quang Tri will be merged with Quang Binh to form Quang Tri province, with Dong Hoi city as the administrative centre.
The newly formed Quang Tri province will cover 12,700 square kilometres and have a population of 1.8 million
